Spain’s FC Barcelona wins the 2011 UEFA Champions League Title

Now, I know what you are thinking. Soccer, STOB is talking soccer now? The answer is no, not really, but just this once, something caught our eye. We don’t watch much soccer, let alone write about it, but it was a slow sports weekend and this was a big match. Not to mention, there were 4 goals scored. 4. So, that provided a lot of action and a lot of knee slides. Almost makes you feel bad for the people that have to clean all the uniforms. They might be the only ones that don’t want any scoring.

Anyway, let’s get to the game. To me, Lionel Messi was the story of the game. He scored a goal and helped create another for FC Barcelona. He, by far, stood out the most and carried FC Barcelona to its 4th UEFA Champions League title with a 3-1 win over Manchester United. Now, when it comes to these teams, the only time I ever really pay any attention to them, is when I’m playing a FIFA video game. With that being said, I really only knew one player out there, and that was Wayne Rooney. I was expecting to see him do what Lionel Messi was doing all over the field, but, it just didn’t seem like he had the help Lionel had. FC Barcelona just seemed faster, hungrier and more determined to win. And they did.

Maybe it was a good thing Rooney didn’t dominate. If he had, I might have never known who Lionel Messi was. Now that I know another name, I might just follow him and his team more often. Like I stated above, I don’t watch much soccer, but I have a feeling that might change after watching last nights match.

Beer recommendation: Before the game, I went to my local liquor store to pick up a random 6 pack. I walked out with Sierra Nevada-Torpedo. It was pretty good. It tastes pretty much like regular Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but with a kick. It has a 7.2 alcohol content, so, be aware, they can sneak up on ya. Maybe that’s where they got the name, Torpedo.
