Dirk Nowitzki injures finger in Game 1 of the NBA Finals

This probably isn’t how Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks thought game one of the NBA Finals would go. They shot a postseason-worst 37.3% from the field, looked over matched and out hustled and lost. However, that might be the least of the Mavericks problems. The best player on their team and the whole playoffs for that matter, Dirk Nowitzki, suffered a torn tendon in is non-shooting hand, his left. Now, your first reaction might be, “It’s his non-shooting hand, no big deal”. However, anyone that plays basketball knows; any type of hand injury, be it on your shooting hand or not, can be a problem. It could make you hesitant to shoot, grab a rebound, dribble or play good defense. Which, Dallas needs Dirk to do all of, if they plan on winning this series.

Hopefully it isn’t a serious injury, because here at STOB, we are fans of Dirk. More importantly, we want this to be a good series. If Dirk isn’t a 100%, the Heat could run all over them much like game 1. I’m sure David Stern would also like Dirk to be healthy. A longer series means more money for the NBA and also means happier fans. Well, at least in the state of the winning team anyway.

The only person in Miami that might want Dirk to be healthy is Lebron James. Last thing he wants is another, “Lebron only won because…..” excuse out there. And you can bet; if Dirk is severely affected by this, that’s exactly what you will hear.
