Nascar Points Chase Heating Up!

With basketball over, NFL still in lockout, and LFL over a month away, you might be looking for something to watch other than baseball.  Well Nascar is the answer! Now Now, dont sigh just yet, or totally dismiss it, instead give Nascar a try, you might be surprised how addictive it can be to watch.  Here are the point standings as of 7/6/2011.

1. Kevin Harvick – Harvick is cemented in the chase and is the top dog in Nascar right now.

2. Carl Edwards –I’m surprised Edwards is not in first right now, however he has struggled in his last handful of races. Is the pressure getting to him up at the top, or are the Subway commercials taking away his focus?

3. Kyle Busch - A little bit of brotherly love right here with Kurt right below Kyle in the standings. Can Kyle hold off his brother going into the chase?

4. Kurt Busch – By far the hotter of the two brothers right now, look for him to pass up Kyle in the next few weeks. If it weren’t for a late wreck at Daytona Saturday night, Kurt definitely would have been a contender going into the final laps.

5. Matt Kenseth – Dark horse of the group, Matt is just kind of hanging around. With two wins already this year and solid finishes most weeks, look for Matt to make a push for the championship.

6. Jimmie Johnson – This might be the year the streak stops. He can’t win 6 championships in a row…Can He…… ?? Just when you count out Jimmie Johnson he tends to always surprise you. As usual Mr. Johnson is lying in the weeds, waiting to strike. Even though he is in 6th right now, you can never count him out.

7. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Jr. the fan favorite appears that he is going to make the chase. Any chase with Dale Earnhardt Jr. in it, is a more exciting chase. Dale has been much more consistent this year compared to years past and it is showing up in points

8. Jeff Gordon - The Rainbow Warrior proved he still can win as he ran away from the field at Pocono a few weeks back. The question is, can he tally up a few more? He is going to have to if he wants to stay close to the young guns in points.

9. Clint Bowyer - Like Kenseth, Bowyer has stayed fairly consistent thus far. He is right on the bubble of the 10th and final chase spot. It is going to be a tough road from here on out especially when you look who is knocking on the point’s door behind him.

10. Ryan Newman - Newman will almost certainly be passed by either Denny Hamlin or Tony Stewart. He doesn’t have the team or the car to stay in the chase hunt.

Notables knocking on the door:

Denny Hamlin

Tony Stewart

David Ragan

Kasey Kahne

Expect the race for the chase to heat up even more as we move closer to September 18th and Chicagoland!
