Gophers vs. Hawkeyes Preview

The Gophers would love to keep the Pig one more year

The Gophers suffered yet another disappointing loss last weekend to a tough Nebraska Cornhusker team. Saturday, their focus turns to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Can the Gophers keep Floyd of Rosedale on this side of the boarder, or will the Hawkeyes bring Floyd home via 35w.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

Hawkeyes Players to watch:

James Vandenberg – Quarterback – This Junior QB is making Iowa fans forget about Ricky Stanzi. Vandenberg started the season slow, but comes into the bank with 16 throwing touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. He can also can get it done on the ground if need be, scoring 3 touchdowns this season with his feet.

Marvin McNutt – Wide Receiver – Without question, Vandenberg’s number one target, McNutt has 8 touchdowns on the season, and 41 receptions, for 757 yards. McNutt will almost certainly be playing on Sundays next year so enjoy him in his college garb while you still can.

Gophers Players to watch:

MarQueis Gray – Quarterback - In a loss to Nebraska last week, Gray might have had his best game of the season running for 83 yards, and passing for 122 yards (9-18 passing.) Although the stats might not blow you away, his poise and leadership were on full display against a veteran Cornhusker defense. In order for the Gophers to have any chance Saturday, Gray will need to be able to move the ball through the air and not rely solely on his feet.

Derrick’s Prediction:

Gophers – 17

Hawkeyes – 34

Ben’s Prediction:

Gophers – 7

Hawkeyes – 31

Ken’s Prediction:

Gophers – 24

Hawkeyes – 17
